Name: Eric Higaonna

Date of Birth: November 4th, 1981

Started martial arts training at the age of 7 in 1988 in Traditional Okinawan Goju Ryu at Sensei Morio Higaonna's once IOGKF honbu dojo in San Marcos, California.  Trained for approximately one and a half years, and then resumed training once more in 1994 at the San Marcos honbu dojo.  Suffered from a condition known as Pancreatitis in late 1996 that forced a temporary departure from martial arts.  During time off from traditional martial arts, continued training in wrestling, with some boxing and Judo training.  Notable wrestling instructors trained under include Coach Mark Nelson, Coach Joe Ismay, and Coach Lennie Zalesky. 
In 2003, returned to Okinawa to resume training in Okinawan Goju Ryu under Sensei Morio Higaonna at the honbu dojo now located in Naha, Okinawa.  In 2004 was invited for training with Anichi Miyagi Sensei at said instructor's house dojo for a focus on Kata fundamentals which lasted until 2006.  Upon a move to Tokyo, pursued training in various martial arts from 2006 to 2007 including Goju Ryu  training under Sensei Kazuo Terauchi, Shotokan Karate under Sensei Mikio Yahara, and Shoot-Boxing training, also known as Shooto, under Sensei Naoki Sakurada.  After martial arts training in Tokyo, moved back down to Okinawa briefly before quickly moving to Ontario, Canada to resume training in Goju Ryu under Sensei Tetsuji Nakamura at said instructor's Canadian honbu dojo in Burlington.  Training in Brazilian JuJutsu (Jiu-jistsu), and kickboxing was studied under Sensei Jeff Joslin during this time.  Continued training in Canada until moving back down to Southern California in late 2009, where Eric Higaonna is currently based.  Currently affiliated with the IOGKF and Bond Squad MMA.

Acomplishments include:

Goju Ryu Instructor for the United World Karate Association (UWKA) in Tokyo from 2006 to 2007
Assistant Goju Ryu Instructor for Shudokan Karate in Burlington, Canada from 2007 to 2009
Guest Instructor for Tenchi Goju Ryu in Varnell, Georgia, USA
Martial Arts Representative for the 2006 expedition of the NPG Global Rainbow Ship to East Europe
IOGKF California State Champion, Teenage Kata & Kumite Division
7th @ California JC Wrestling State Championships
